Andrea Mitchell
Andrea Mitchell, an American journalist and commentator who works with NBC News in Washington D.C. She is also a television anchor. She graduated with a Bachelor of Arts in English Literature from the University of Pennsylvania after growing as a child in New York City. Mitchell was employed as a reporter by KYW Radio and TV Philadelphia in 1967. In 1976 she became a CBS affiliate WDVM-TV. (then WTOP in Washington DC). She was hired by NBC News Washington two years after that as a general reporter. Beginning in 1981 she began covering the White House. In 1988 she was named chief congressional reporter. In 1992, she was appointed Chief White House Correspondent and in 1994, she was named chief foreign affairs reporter at NBC News. Mitchell has appeared as a guest on TV news show Meet the Press as a panelist and host. She was on the panel in the 1988 presidential debates in the debate between George Bush and Michael Dukakis. Mitchell is the wife of Alan Greenspan former chairman of the Federal Reserve Board. Mitchell received the Goldsmith Career Award in 2005 by the John F. Kennedy School of Government to honor her achievements in journalism. In 2004 The Radio-Television News Directors Association gave Mitchell the Leonard Zeidenberg Award in recognition of her contribution to defending First Amendment Freedoms. Mitchell's first White House coverage was for NBC News, between 1981-1988. This period included the two Ronald Reagan terms in office. Mitchell has reported on a variety of notable stories over the years, such as budget reform, tax reform, and The Iran Contra affair. She traveled extensively with Reagan as well as Mikhail Gorbachev to world summits.
